To the Highest Bidder doesn't sound like this or that; it is pure Supersister, namely in "A Girl Named You," the group's first true classic. Stips' composition combines elements of rock and jazz with a circular me-and-you message that brings to mind early Gong (the way he handles the melody also evokes Daevid Allen). Everybody gets a technical.

2nd album by the brilliant Dutch band Supersister, which almost singlehandedly were Europe's answer to the British Canterbury scene. Often compared to Soft Machine (circa "Third"), in fact the group is more comparable to later Canterbury groups like Matching Mole, Hatfield And The North, National Health and even later Caravan, although chronologically they preceded these groups by several years.

"A Girl Named You" is surely a classic Canterbury-ish track, full of imaginative playing, cute melodies, erotized nursery rhymes, soft flute grooviness and atmospheric keyboards. "No tree Will Grow" is a more pensive one yet on the coda they bursted out laughing with noise cheeks and sea lion's imitation.
